Linz, Austria, January 10, 2023: Technology group Kontron (www.kontron.com, ISIN AT0000A0E9W5, WKN A0X9EJ, KTN) has seen a successful end to the business year. In addition to signing major new strategic contracts, Kontron completed the sale of the majority of its IT services business to VINCI Energies S.A., which is a global information and communications technology group through its Axians brand. With this sale, Kontron is delivering on its strategy of focusing and growing in the Internet of Things (IoT) technology sector. The company plans to expand its position as a leading IoT and Industry 4.0 specialist, known for supporting customers in their digital transformation journey.
The excellent order books validate the group strategy. Most recently, Kontron was awarded the contract to implement a solution for a European Union state for the secure identification and authentication of persons. The EUR 89 million contract includes the issue of the latest generation of highly secure identification documents. The contracts were signed at the end of December and the project is already underway.
In addition, business development in the rail infrastructure sector remains very strong. Kontron Transportation was awarded the contract for the turnkey deployment of the GSM-R system for the Egyptian high-speed train project by a consortium led by Siemens Mobility before the end of 2022. This order marks the beginning of a new era for the railway system in Egypt, Africa and the Middle East. With a new electrified train network that will connect 60 cities across the country, featuring a 2,000-kilometre, state-of-the-art high-speed network. This means new transport routes for 100 million people and a significant reduction in CO2 emissions.
Since the turn of the year, the technology group Kontron is represented with a new and fresh brand identity. The new Kontron branding marks the completion of the transformation process as it becomes a pure IoT-player. The rebranding unifies the Kontron brands and bundles all cooperation initiatives as well as the skills and competencies of the business units in the areas of IoT, software and 5G.
